Joana Liu was born in Houston, Texas, and is now based in Pittsburgh, PA, pursuing a B.F.A in Art and Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University. Her conceptual work centers itself around three primary components: nostalgia, interactive installations, and parallels. Her work explores digital fabrication in laser cuts and prints, as well as crumbling projection and audience-based work, culminating in recent exhibitions in The Frame Gallery, Lawndale Art Center, and Women & Their Work across Houston and Austin, Texas, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her inspirations rise from her perceptions of common culture and a desire to draw warmth or curiosity into being.
